
Houston to Host Cabo Collegiate Beginning Sunday

Cougars welcome 13 of nation’s Top-50 programs to Cabo del Sol in Mexico
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The University of Houston Men's Golf program continues a busy week when it tees off at the Cabo Collegiate presented by CFO4Life at Los Cabos Querencia, beginning Sunday morning.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on the Cove Club Course at Cabo del Sol with 18 holes scheduled each day through Tuesday on the 6,898-yard layout.
The tournament begins with 10 a.m. (CST) shotgun starts on Monday and Tuesday with the Final Round beginning with a 9 a.m. (CST) shotgun start Tuesday.
The Cougars are part of an elite field. All but one school in the 15-team field are ranked in the latest Golfstat national rankings with two in the Top 10 and six in the Top 25.
Houston enters the Cabo Collegiate after tying for fourth at the Border Olympics at Max Mandel Golf Course on Tuesday in Laredo, Texas. Senior Matt Cole fired a Final-Round 68 and lowered his score with each round to earn a season-best fourth-place finish at 4-under 212, while junior Luke Long tied for fifth at 213.
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars – who stand at No. 39 in the latest Golfstat national rankings – will face No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 13 Baylor, No. 14 Arizona, No. 20 Vanderbilt, No. 25 Oklahoma State, No. 26 Florida State, No. 29 California, No. 30 LSU, No. 32 Mississippi, No. 35 Stanford, No. 42 Alabama, No. 50 Arkansas and Rice.

The Cougars will be represented by junior Luke Long, junior Andrew Gibson, sophomore Braxton Watkins, senior Matt Cole and junior Alexander Frances.
Freshman Austyn Reily will compete an individual.
This season, Long leads the Cougars with a 70.47 scoring average and 11 rounds of par or better, including seven in the 60s. Gibson stands second with a 71.87 average and is tied for second on the team with Frances with nine rounds of par or lower.

Following the Cabo Collegiate (March 1-3), the Cougars will compete at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla., on March 16-17.
From there, the team will tee off at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., on April 4-5.
