Both Cougar men and women look to repeat as champs
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program opens the postseason when it competes in the 2020 American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships from Feb. 28-29 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The meet is set to be streamed live on The American Digital Network which can accessed by clicking HERE.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Cougar women look to repeat at The American Indoor Champions after capturing the title at last season's meet. Houston returns much of its firepower from last season. Taylor Scaife returns for her senior season and is currently ranked third in the NCAA in the weight throw having won the conference title last season in the event. Naomi Taylor enters the meet 13th nationally in the 60-meter hurdles, looking to defend her title in the event. Brianne Bethel won the 200-meters in Birmingham last season and holds the 33rd-fastest time in the NCAA this season. Samiyah Samuels looks to win her third consecutive Long Jump title at the indoor championships.
On the men's side, Houston has won five consecutive American Indoor Track & Field team titles. The Cougars head into the meet with four of the top-five 60-meters times in The American, led by Travis Collins (6.66). Jordan Booker returns to action with a season-best time of 21.13, the fastest time by any Cougar this season. Jermaine Holt leads The American in the 400-meters, as Cougars hold two of the top-five times in the league in the event. Christian Gilmore paces The American in the 800-meter with a conference-leading time of 1:50.97. Dayo Akindele will make his first postseason with the Cougars with a conference-leading time in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.76, followed by Quivell Jordan in third at 7.84. UH is the favorite in the 4x400-meter relay with the 20th-fastest time in the NCAA in the event. Antonio Ruiz is fresh off of a program-best performance in the Pole Vault and holds the 10th-best mark in the NCAA in the event, as Miles Marhofer looks to extend a stellar season in the weight throw entering the meet with the second-best mark in The American.
