Cougars tee off Monday morning at Max Mandel Golf Course in Laredo, Texas
LAREDO, Texas – The University of Houston Men's Golf program continues its spring season when it plays host to the Border Olympics, beginning Monday morning.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at Max Mandel Golf Club with 36 holes Monday and the final 18 holes being played Tuesday. Teams will begin each day with 7:30 a.m., shotgun starts on the 7,297-yard, par-72 course.
Fans should note that the venue for the 2020 Border Olympics was recently changed due to ongoing course and greens renovations at Laredo Country Club.
The Cougars enter the Border Olympics after tying for fifth at their own All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 16-18 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
Playing as an individual, junior Andrew Gibson tied for seventh with a career-best 5-under 211. Junior Laurence Crea, sophomore Braxton Watkins and junior Luke Long tied for 10th at 212.

THE LINEUP
The Cougars will be represented by junior Luke Long, junior Andrew Gibson, sophomore Braxton Watkins, senior Matt Cole and junior Alexander Frances.
Junior Laurence Crea and senior Logan Young will compete as individuals.
This season, Long leads the Cougars with a 70.47 scoring average and 11 rounds of par or better, including seven in the 60s. The Fayetteville, Ark., native has shot par or lower in each of his last six rounds and seven of the last eight, dating back to the fall season.
With his performance earlier this week, Gibson moved into second among the Cougars with a 71.87 average and is tied with Frances for second with nine rounds of par or better.

Austin, Toledo, ULM, UT Rio Grande Valley, UTSA.

Following the Border Olympics, the Cougars will host the Cabo Collegiate (March 1-3) at Querencia Golf Club in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
From there, the team and Valspar Collegiate Invitational (March 16-17) at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
