Sasser named league’s Player of the Week, Mark collects first Freshman of the Week honor
HOUSTON – After leading the University of Houston Men's Basketball program to three straight victories, guards Marcus Sasser and Tramon Mark swept the American Athletic Conference's weekly awards on Monday morning.
Sasser was named the league's Player of the Week, while Mark was recognized as its Freshman of the Week. Sasser earned his first Player of the Week accolade after being named Freshman of the Week in March. Mark earned the first weekly award of his young career.

ABOUT MARCUS SASSER
In three games last week, Sasser averaged a team-high 17.3 points per game, connecting on 50.0 percent of his 3-point attempts (12-of-24) with 1.3 steals per game.
The Red Oak, Texas, native opened the season with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting against Lamar and set a Fertitta Center record with seven 3-pointers.
Sasser followed that with 10 points, two 3-pointers, two assists and two steals in the Cougars' win over Boise State in the first game of the Southwest Showcase in the Fertitta Center. He followed that with a game-high 17 points and three 3-pointers in the Cougars' 64-53 win over No. 14/13 Texas Tech in the Southwest Showcase championship game.

ABOUT TRAMON MARK
Making his collegiate debut last week, Mark averaged 14.0 points with 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Facing Lamar in his inaugural game, the Dickinson, Texas, native scored 22 points, thanks to 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 10-of-13 from the free throw line, and grabbed eight rebounds with three steals and two assists.
With his total, he became only the third true freshman in school history to score 20+ points in his first game and the first since Lamar Roberson set the school record with 25 points against Florida Tech during the 2005-06 season opener.
After a 9-point effort against Boise State, Mark finished with 11 points and a pair of rebounds to help lead the Cougars to a 64-53 win over No. 14/13 Texas Tech during the final game of the Southwest Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas.
Forward Jayden Gardner (ECU), guard Boogie Ellis (Memphis), guard Kendric Davis (SMU), guard Jaylen Forbes (Tulane) and guard Brandon Rachal (Tulsa) were named to the league's Honor Roll.
UP NEXT
• The Cougars return to the friendly confines of the Fertitta Center to play host to South Carolina at 5 p.m., Saturday. Fans should note the tipoff time change, which was made to better accommodate the Houston Football game, kicking off at 8 p.m., Saturday, vs. SMU in Dallas.
• The Men's Basketball game can be seen on ESPN+ and can be heard on 950 AM KPRC.
• That will be the start of a four-game homestand for the Cougars, who go on to play host to Sam Houston State (Dec. 9), Rice (Dec. 12) and American Athletic Conference-rival UCF (Dec. 16).
• The Cougars don't hit the road again until they take on Alabama on Dec. 19 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
