Houston Welcomes Ramon Walker

Shadow Creek guard will compete as freshman with Cougars in 2021-22
HOUSTON – Shadow Creek High School forward Ramon Walker became the newest member of the University of Houston Men's Basketball program when he signed a National Letter of Intent, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Thursday.
Listed as a 3-star recruit by Rivals, Walker stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 210 pounds. He will compete as a freshman with the Cougars in 2021-22.
"The thing I like about Ramon Walker is his offensive versatility. He is a good rebounding guard, but his greatest strength is his ability to make 3s. That's something we can tighten up with him. He can shoot it, and he can rebound it," Sampson said. "He is a Houston kid. We made a commitment that we were going to recruit inside out, and we think Ramon can impact our program."
As a junior for Head Coach David President during the 2019-20 season, Walker averaged 24.4 points with 6.3 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.6 assists per game.
He was named a finalist for the Guy V. Lewis Award, presented to the top high school player in the city of Houston and was selected as a member of the Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston First Team.
During the Class 5A Regional Semifinal, he scored 30 points with nine free throws late to lead the Mustangs to a win over Manor High School.
"Ramon is a blue-collar guy and fits UH's DNA well. He does all the small things to win ball games. He is a great offensive rebounder, he can knock down an open shot and he creates for his teammates. Ramon has winning characteristics," President said. "He is a great kid and comes from a great background. Ramon will be a great asset to the basketball program and to the UH community."
Walker selected Houston over North Texas, Sam Houston State and Texas State.
He joined Monteverde (Fla.) Academy forward Ja'Vier Francis and Wasatch Academy (Utah) guard Robbie Armbrester in the Cougars' signing class.
