
Houston Has Strong Showing on First Day of Invite

Cougars win trio of events at Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational
HOUSTON –The University of Houston Track & Field team concluded the first day of action at the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational.
FIELD EVENTS
For the third time this season, Miles Marhofer rewrote the program record in the weight throw. The junior college transfer won the event with a mark of 21.18m (69-6.00).
Taylor Scaife took home the gold in the weight throw for the second consecutive time this season. The senior won the event with a throw of 21.28m (69-9.75). Mikaila Martin finished in second place with a lifetime best mark of 19.65m (64-5.75).
Houston secured two of the top-five placed in the men's pole vault at Ben Percefull and Christyan Sampy each clearing 5.05m (16-06.75) and finishing in fourth and fifth-place respectively.
Destiny White closed out the College Women's Long Jump in third-place with a leap of 5.78m (18-11.75).
RUNNING EVENTS
Payge Side got things going for Houston with a first-place finish in the 'B' Section of the 400-meter. Side took home first-place in the event at 56.99.
Jordan Booker (6.79) and Nicholas Alexander (6.80) both advanced to the finals of the 60-meters dash after taking second and third place, respectively. In the final, Alexander clocked a second-place finish at 6.74, followed by Booker in third-place at 6.76.
Travis Collins had a stellar day on the oval taking first place in both the prelim and the final of the Elite Section of the 60-meters at 6.72 and 6.68. He was joined by Edward Sumler IV who competed unattached, finishing fourth in the prelims and final at 6.87 in each race.
Naomi Taylor had another strong showing with third-place finishes in both the prelims and final of the 60-meter hurdles. The junior posted the highest finish of any collegian in the field, clocking times of 6.236 and 8.19, respectively.
Dayo Akindele continues to anchor the Cougars in the hurdles on the men's side finishing third in the final of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.808. Quivell Jordan finished in fifth place with a lifetime best time of 7.84.
In the 60-meters on the women's side, the Cougars took three of the top-five places. Tristan Evelyn finished in second, clocking a lifetime best time of 7.39, Ashley Seymour finished in third with a lifetime best time of 7.43, and Brianne Bethel took home fourth at 7.46.
