
Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational Begins Friday

Cougars welcome over 25 programs to Yeoman Fieldhouse
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field team will welcome over 25 track & field programs to Yeoman Fieldhouse on from Jan. 31 – Feb. 1 for the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational.
Meet action is set to begin on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Pentathlon and Heptathlon. Saturday's schedule is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Cougars will return to action after sweeping The American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors for the first time this season and earning its fifth weekly honor of the season. Naomi Taylor will enter the meet with the sixth-fastest time this season among collegians in the 60-meter hurdles, as Travis Collins returns to action with the 17th-fastest time among collegians this season in the 60-meter.
Brianne Bethel has shown what she can do on the track and enters the meet with the eighth-fastest time in the nation in the 200-meter. Dayo Akindele had a strong showing at both the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational and the Red Raider Invitational with the 12th-fastest time in the collegiate ranks this season in the 60-meter hurdles.
The Houston men's 4x400-meter relay posted the fourth-fastest time in the nation last weekend. On the women's side the 4x400-meter relay took second-place in Lubbock with the 15th-fastest time in the nation in the event. Both squads will look to remain among the best in the nation in the event.
Houston is gaining attention in the field as well, as Samiyah Samuels enters the meet with the 10th-best mark in the nation in the long jump. Nora Monie has remained a steady force in the shot put with the 19th-best mark in the country in the event. After taking first-place in the weight throw in Lubbock, Taylor Scaife will look to build upon a fantastic start to her final indoor season at Houston.
Antonio Ruiz had made an immediate impact at Houston in multiple events, returning to action with the 10th-best mark in the nation in the pole vault. Mile Marhofer has already shattered the program record in the weight throw two times this season and will enter the ring on Friday with the 21st-best mark in the country in the event.
