Mills named Freshman of the Week for second time; Jarreau earns place on Honor Roll
HOUSTON – After leading the University of Houston Men's Basketball program to home wins over UConn and USF inside Fertitta Center, University of Houston guards Caleb Mills and DeJon Jarreau were honored Monday by the American Athletic Conference.
Mills was named the league's Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, while Jarreau earned a place on the Honor Roll for the second time in 2019-20.
Mills averaged 15.5 points per game to lead the Cougars and finished second on the team with three 3-pointers and a 50.0 3-point percentage.
The Arden, N.C., native led all players with 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting and buried all eight free throw tries against UConn. He combined with Jarreau to score the Cougars' last 28 points during the final 11:13 of the game.
With the score tied at 55 and only 48 seconds remaining, Mills buried a baseline jumper to give the Cougars the lead for good in their fourth straight win against the Huskies. He has part of a comeback effort, which saw Houston trailing by six points with less than five minutes remaining.
Mills totaled 11 points with three rebounds and an assist in Houston's 68-49 win over USF on Sunday in the Fertitta Center.

Jarreau led the Cougars with 7.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game and finished second on the team with 15.0 points per game.
The New Orleans native recorded his second straight double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win against UConn and fell just short of a triple-double with a game-high eight assists.
He combined with Mills to score the Cougars' last 28 points over the final 11:13 and drained 12 of 15 free throw tries.
Jarreau led all players with 12 points and six assists in Sunday's win over USF and scored four points in the Cougars' 10-1 run, which turned a 17-16 deficit into a 24-16 lead they never relinquished.
Tulsa's Martins Igbanu was named The American Player of the Week. Cincinnati guard Jarron Cumberland, ECU forward Jayden Gardner, SMU guard Kendric Davis and Wichita State guard Dexter Dennis joined Jarreau on the Honor Roll.
