Austin Pruitt Traded to Astros

Former Houston standout returns home
HOUSTON -- Former University of Houston Baseball pitcher Austin Pruitt was acquired by the Houston Astros in a three-player trade with the Tampa Bay Rays late Thursday night.
Pruitt is expected to compete for the fifth spot in Houston's rotation this spring, according Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow.

In 2019, Pruitt split time with the American League Wild Card-winning Rays and its Class AAA affiliate Durham Bulls. The right-hander was 3-0 with 4.40 ERA with the Rays and 3-3 with a 5.40 ERA with the Bulls. Between the two teams, Pruitt appeared in 32 games making eight starts for a total of 95.1 innings pitched.
Pruitt, who debuted with the Rays in 2017, was drafted by Tampa Bay in the 9th Round (Pick 278) in 2013 after two years on Cullen Boulevard.
His senior season, Pruitt was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team after leading the Cougars with a 10-5 record with a 2.85 ERA in 15 starts. That season, he was also named to the ABCA South Central All-Region Second Team.
For his Houston career, Pruitt was 13-9 across 31 appearances with 29 starts. He posted 149 strikeouts to 49 walks across 204.2 innings.
