Senior outside hitter posted two double-doubles to aid 2-0 week
HOUSTON – After leading the University of Houston Volleyball team to a pair of five-set, comeback victories to start conference play, senior outside hitter Megan Duncan was named The American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Â
The honor is the first of Duncan's career, as the Cougars have now earned three American Player of the Week accolades this season, the most in a single season since 2015. Last week, senior libero Katie Karbo was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman outside hitter Abbie Jackson earned Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9. This is the first time Houston has had three different players earn a conference Player of the Week honor since 2006.
Â
For Duncan, this past week saw her lead the Cougars with a pair of double-doubles, which guided Houston to its first 2-0 start in conference play since 2013. In her 10 sets played, Duncan posted a team-high 43 kills, averaging 4.30 kills per set. Defensively, Duncan totaled 23 digs on the week and did not commit a reception error in 58 tries.
Â
The Plano, Texas, native's two double-doubles on the week were her first two of the season and 18th and 19th of her career, respectively.
Â
In the comeback victory over Memphis, Duncan tied her career-high with 25 kills, having closed out the match with 14 slams over the final two sets, where she posted a .520 hitting percentage in that stretch.
