NORMAN, Okla. – University of Houston sophomore Hannah Screen shot a even-par 70 in Sunday's Final Round at the Schooner Fall Classic and tied for 10th with a score of 210 to post her second straight Top-10 finish to open the season at Belmar Golf Club.
Overcoming a bogey on her first hole of the day, Screen returned to even par with a birdie on the 510-yard, par-5 third hole and added another birdie on the par-3 sixth hole.
Despite a bogey on No. 7, the Berkhamsted, U.K., native added her final birdie of the day on the par-3 11th hole and closed the tournament with seven straight pars. Screen tied for fifth at the season-opening Mason Rudolph Championship on Sept. 20-22 in Franklin, Tenn.
As a team, the Cougars recorded a score of 284 in the Final Round and finished eighth at 856 on the 6,048-yard, par-70 course at Belmar Golf Club.
Texas claimed the team championship with a score of 838. Alabama finished second at 847 with Mississippi State (848), Baylor (849), Illinois (850), Florida State (850) and host Oklahoma (853) rounding out the Top Seven. Clemson (859) and Texas A&M (864) completed the Top 10 leaders.
Freshman Karen Fredgaard posted the Cougars' low round of the day with a 68 Sunday and finished 23rd at 213. She moved into red numbers early with a birdie on No. 2 and added another birdie on No. 8.
The Asserbo, Denmark, native began her back nine with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole and, despite three bogeys in a four-hole stretch midway through her final nine holes, drained birdies on No. 13 and No. 16 for her second straight Top-25 finish to open her career.
Sophomore Maria Jose Martinez tied for 38th at 217, while sophomore Annie Kim tied for 45th at 218. Senior Brooke McDougald finished 78th at 234, while senior Amanda Elich – competing as an individual – finished 72nd at 227.
Illinois' Tristyn Nowlin and Florida State's Frida Kinhult shared medalist honors at 207.
UP NEXT
The Cougars return to action when they tee off at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 20-21. Hosted by Texas State, that tournament will be held at Kissing Tree Golf Course in San Marcos, Texas.
From there, Houston closes out its fall schedule when it plays host to the White Sands Invitational at the Ocean Club in Nassau, Bahamas on Oct. 28-30. That begins a busy week for Houston Golf , which sees the Men's team hosts the White Sands Invitational on Nov. 1-3.
