Houston Opens American Athletic Conference Play

Cougars return to the Fertitta Center for first time in 11 matches
HOUSTON – After 11 matches on the road, the University of Houston Volleyball team returns to the Fertitta Center to open American Athletic Conference play with SMU on Friday and Memphis on Sunday.
The Cougars enter this weekend having split their past four conference openers, with their last win to begin conference play coming in 2017 against UConn.
Last year, Houston split its season series with SMU, ending the 2018 campaign with a 3-1 win over the Mustangs. Houston also looks to continue its recent trend of success against Memphis, as the Cougars have won two of the past three matchups against the Tigers.
Due to high school football on Friday, parking the in the Stadium Garage will be $10 and will return to $5 on Sunday.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
NEW GAMEDAY PROCEDURES
Those looking to watch the Cougars in action in 2019 are now advised to park in the Stadium Garage on Holman Street as well as Lot 16B on the southeast corner of Elgin and Cullen in front of Moore's School of Music.
Fans can park in both areas for $5, which will be open two hours before first serve. On days where other events are occurring on campus, $5 parking lots will still be available at locations to be determined later.
To enter the Fertitta Center, doors will only be open at the Holman Street entrances, where fans can purchase single-game tickets for as low as $5. Fans can buy tickets in advance now by either clicking here or calling (713) GO-COOGS.
Along with the list of prohibited items, also new to Houston Volleyball fans in 2019 is a Clear Bag Policy, which is being incorporated to help provide a safer environment for the public and to expedite fan entry into the Fertitta Center. The UH Clear Bag Policy strictly limits the size and types of bags that are permitted into the Fertitta Center.
Items such as backpacks, large bags and diaper bags are not permitted. Fans are strongly encouraged to not bring any bags. However, the following will be permitted:

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- After concluding its non-conference slate with a five-set, thrilling victory over Incarnate Word, Houston opens American Athletic Conference action at home for the fourth time in the past five years.
- With senior libero Katie Karbo being named The American Defensive Player of the Week (9/23), Houston is the only school in The American to have multiple players win a Player of the Week accolade this season.
- As of the best liberos to come through the Houston program, Karbo continues to the climb the charts in the record book, already ranking third in career digs (2,047) and second in career digs per set (5.03). Karbo currently sits 10th in the nation with 5.47 digs per set and second with 328 total digs.
- Houston has also found contributions from junior setter Abby Irvine and freshman outside hitter Abbie Jackson. While Irvine leads the squad with seven double-doubles on the season, Jackson has emerged as an offensive juggernaut with her 3.78 kills per set that sit top five in the conference.

- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
- A small clutch purse no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap. These small clutches are subject to search.
- An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the entrance by arena personnel.
