ABOUT REID GETTYS
Four-year letterman and record holder Reid Gettys will be honored during the Tip-Off Dinner. In four years in the Scarlet & White, Gettys led the Cougars to 104 victories, three straight NCAA Tournament Final Fours, four Southwest Conference regular-season and tournament championships and four postseason appearances.
More than 30 years after his final collegiate game, Gettys remains the program's single-game (17, vs. Rice, Feb. 17, 1985), single-season (309, 1983-84) and career assists leader (740, 1981-85). He also ranks third in Houston history with 95 victories as a Cougar.
Today, Gettys continues to live in Houston while working as an attorney and can frequently be seen as an analyst on college basketball television broadcasts.
ABOUT 2019-20 COUGARS
After a record-setting season a year ago, two starters and six lettermen return for the Cougars in 2019-20. Junior guard DeJon Jarreau returns as the team's leader with 8.7 points and 3.3 assists per game and was named the American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year with those numbers, the second straight season a Cougar collected that honor.
Sophomore Nate Hinton averaged 7.2 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per contest to lead all returning Cougars this season. The Gastonia, N.C. native finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds in an impressive victory at No. 25/23 Cincinnati in the regular-season finale to clinch the Cougars' first outright regular-season conference championship since 1984.
The Cougars open the 2019-20 season when they face Angelo State on Nov. 9 in an exhibition game inside the Fertitta Center. Houston begins the regular season when it takes on Alabama State on Nov. 12 inside the Fertitta Center.
A year ago, Houston set a school record with 33 wins and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in more than three decades.
Competing inside the beautiful, $60-million Fertitta Center, the Cougars won 14 of 15 games inside that facility and held the nation's longest active home winning streak for most of the 2018-19 season.
