Begins with Nov. 9 exhibition vs. Angelo State, features seven home games inside Fertitta Center
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program will enjoy seven home games plus a Nov. 9 exhibition contest inside the Fertitta Center during its 2019-20 non-conference schedule, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced Wednesday.
Oregon (25) and Texas State (24) each posted 20-win seasons a year ago, while Texas State (t-2nd, Southland), UT Arlington (t-2nd, Southland) and BYU (3rd, West Coast) finished among the Top Three in their respective conferences.
In 2018-19, Houston posted a combined 19-1 home record at H&PE Arena and the Fertitta Center with wins in 14 of 15 games in the latter facility. Building a 33-game home winning streak through late February, the Cougars led the nation for most of the season in that category.
Houston's American Athletic Conference schedule with times and TV networks will be announced soon.

in NOVEMBER
The Cougars open the season with a Nov. 9 exhibition game against Angelo State and follow that with a Nov. 12 regular-season opener against Alabama State on Nov. 12. It will be Houston's first meeting against the Hornets on the hardwood.
On Nov. 15, the Cougars welcome BYU to Houston for the first time since the 2006 NIT First Round. Houston then hits the road but never leaves the city limits to meet Rice on Nov. 19 inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Cougars travel west to take on Oregon on Nov. 22. A year ago, Houston opened the $60-million Fertitta Center with a 65-61 over the 18th-ranked Ducks in front of a crowd of 7,039, the first of nine sellouts in 2018-19.
Houston closes out the month with a Nov. 26 game against Houston Baptist inside the Fertitta Center.

in DECEMBER
The Cougars open the month when welcoming Texas State to the Fertitta Center on Dec. 4. After a Dec. 8 showdown at South Carolina in Columbia, S.C, Houston returns to the Fertitta Center for three straight home games against UT Arlington (Dec. 11), Oklahoma State (Dec. 15) and UTEP (Dec. 19).
From there, the Cougars close their non-conference slate at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Houston opens that tournament at 2 p.m. (CDT), Dec. 22, against Portland before facing the winner/loser of Georgia State-Boise State at 3:30 p.m./6 p.m. (CDT) on Dec. 23.
The Cougars' final game at the Diamond Head Classic will be played on Christmas against an opponent and at a time to be determined.
SUMMER TRIP to ITALY
Houston wraps up its summer workouts with an 11-day trip to Italy, beginning Wednesday.
The Cougars are scheduled to tour Rome (including the Roman Forum and Colosseum), Vatican City (including the Vatican Museum, St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel), food tasting in Siena, Florence (including the Accademia Gallery and Michelangelo's The David), Milan (including a tour of The Last Supper), Como and a boat tour of Lake Como.
In competition, the Cougars will play four games. The schedule begins at 1:30 p.m. (CDT), Aug. 9, against Stella Azzurra Academy in Rome, with additional contests against BC Silute (Lithuania) (1:30 p.m. CDT, Aug. 12), LCC International University (Lithuania) (11:30 a.m. CDT, Aug. 13) and Italian Select team (1 p.m. CDT, Aug. 15).
This is the second international trip the Cougars will enjoy under Sampson. Prior to the start of the 2015-16 season, the Cougars enjoyed a 10-day trip to China. Besides posting a 3-1 record in competition, the Cougars also enjoyed visits to Yellow Mountain and the 900-year-old village of Xi Di Hong.
