Quarterback picks up sixth preseason honor entering 2019
HOUSTON -- University of Houston Football senior quarterback D'Eriq King has been named to the Manning Award Watch List, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Wednesday morning.
King is one of 30 quarterbacks on the list, as the preseason accolade is his sixth watch list entering the season. The native of Manvel, Texas, was tabbed to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List on July 15, Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List on July 16, the Walter Camp Football Foundation 2019 Player of Year Preseason Watch List on July 26, the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List on July 31 and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List on Aug. 13.
In addition, King was ranked No. 40 in ESPN's Top 50 College Players announced on Aug. 12.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only college football quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting; therefore, it is presented annually following the completion of the bowl season.
The winner is selected by a panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings.
