Rachelle Benavides to Join Houston

HOUSTON – Florida State infielder Rachelle "Rock" Benavides will join the University of Houston Softball program for the 2020 season, Head Coach Kristin Vesely announced Tuesday.
Originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, Benavides joins the program with lofty postseason experience, having won a national title in 2018. She will be eligible to play at the start of the 2020 season and will look to make an immediate impact on the field.
"Rock is a big addition to our program," Vesely said. "I expect her to be a difference-maker with how hard she plays the game and with her skill set. She has a tremendous amount of passion for the sport and that comes with all of her postseason experience. We are excited to have her.
"Her style of play and athleticism fits everything that Houston Softball is about. She possesses experience and has tremendous leadership skills."

BENAVIDES' CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
- A 2018 NCAA National Champion with the Seminoles
- Won back-to-back ACC Championships from 2018-19
- Saw action in 37 games in 2019, making 21 starts to help lead Florida State to its ninth-straight Super Regional
- Scored the first run of her career in a win over Northern Florida (3/10/18), where she tallied her first career RBI on that same day
- Recorded her the first hit of her career in the sweep over Boston College (4/21/19)
- Finished the 2019 campaign with an on-base percentage of .400
- Earned a Bi-District Championship at Veterans Memorial High School in 2017
