Houston standout one of 585 nominees
HOUSTON – Former University of Houston Softball standout Savannah Heebner was tabbed as a nominee for the NCAA Women of the Year, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
The award honors graduating female student-athletes who have a proven track record of distinguishing themselves academically, athletically and in the community. This year, there were a record 585 student-athlete nominees across all NCAA divisions and 23 different sports.
From here, each conference will select up to two nominees each from the pool of school nominees, where the Woman of the Year selection committee, which is comprised of representatives of the NCAA membership, will select the Top 30 nominees – 10 from each division.
Heebner just wrapped up one of the most storied careers in program history, having been named to the NFCA All-Region team for the third time in her career, a feat only one other player in program history has accomplished. With her First-Team All-Conference selection in 2019, the 2018 NFCA All-America Second Team honoree and Co-American Pitcher of the Year also became the first player in Houston Softball history to receive four First-Team All-Conference accolades in a career.
The Sedalia, Colorado, native also excelled in the classroom having earned a pair of NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors to go along with three American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors.
