Former standout Cougar will represent South in upcoming Home Run Derby & All-Star Game
HOUSTON -- Former University of Houston Baseball standout catcher Connor Wong aided the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to the postseason as the ball club was crowned First Half South Division Champions in the Class A Advanced California League late Tuesday night.
In another game in the league, Lake Elsinore lost to Lancaster, 2-1, to seal the first half for the Quakes, who were in the middle of their contest against Inland Empire, a game they went on to win 7-5 at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino, Calif.
In that game, Wong finished 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
Wong will represent the South in the upcoming California League Home Run Derby and All-Star game on June 18 at San Manuel Stadium.
Wong was a three-year letterwinner for the Cougars from 2015 to 2017. A two-time All-American Athletic Conference selection, Wong batted .280 with 33 doubles, eight triples, 23 home runs, 98 walks, 103 RBI, 152 runs scored and 38 stolen bases across his career.
Following his junior season, Wong was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Third Round (Pick 100) of the 2017 MLB Draft. In 2018, Wong helped the Quakes win the California League Championship.
