Davis, Brooks Sign Free-Agent Deals with Wizards

Cougar teammates set to begin professional careers together after leading Houston in 2018-19
HOUSTON – University of Houston teammates for the last two years, guards Corey Davis Jr. and Armoni Brooks will begin their professional careers together after signing free-agent deals with the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.
Both players were key parts of the Cougars' record-setting season in 2018-19. Houston set a school record with 33 wins, captured the program's first outright conference title since 1984 and led the Cougars to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in more than 30 years.
Brooks and Davis were two of three Cougars to join the Wizards on Thursday after guard Jonathon Simmons was traded to Washington from the 76ers.
Simmons led Houston with 14.7 points per game and grabbed 5.0 rebounds per contest while starting all but one game during the 2011-12 season.
ABOUT COREY DAVIS
Davis was a leader for the Cougars throughout his senior season. The Lafayette, La., native led Houston with 17.0 points per game and was one of Houston's and the American Athletic Conference's most prolific 3-point shooters, draining 111 treys in 296 attempts.
With his trey total in 2018-19, Davis joined Robert McKiver as the only Cougars to post multiple seasons with 100+ 3-point field goals during their careers.
He enjoyed 14 20-point games and scored a career-high 31 points with six assists in Houston's 85-69 win at No. 20/19 Cincinnati on March 10 in the regular-season finale. That win clinched the Cougars' first outright regular-season conference championship since 1984.
Davis also became the 48th Cougar in school history to reach 1,000 points in two years at Houston and finished with 1,086 points during his career.
Davis was named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team, the NABC All-District 25 First Team, the USBWA All-District VII Team and was named to The American Championship All-Tournament Team for the second straight season.

Like Davis, Brooks was an offensive weapon from long range. With 121 3-pointers in 2018-19, Brooks became only the sixth player in school history to drain 100+ treys in a single season and, with 229 in his career, he was only the fifth player to reach 200+.
Brooks also led the Cougars with 6.3 rebounds per contest and was one of only two players to rank among The American's Top-15 leaders in both scoring AND rebounding.
He was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team and the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 25 Second Team.
