OPELIKA, Ala. – University of Houston stars Leonie Harm and Hannah Screen each fired 74s to lead the Cougars during the NCAA Auburn Regional First Round at Saugahatchee Country Club on Monday afternoon.
Competing on the 6,371-yard, par-72 course, Harm and Screen were tied for 20th with their totals through the first 18 holes.
As a team, the eighth-seeded Cougars stood in 13th with a score of 306.
No. 6 Vanderbilt held the First-Round lead at 287 to finish three strokes ahead of No. 3 Duke (290). No. 11 Florida State and ECU were tied for fourth at 291 with No. 42 Tennessee (294), Maryland (294), No. 17 Virginia (296), No. 13 Auburn (299), No. 22 Furman (299) and No. 38 Alabama (300) rounding out the Top-10 leaders.
Senior Maddy Rayner was tied for 71st at 78 with freshman Maria Jose Martinez tied for 82nd at 80 and junior Amanda Elich tied for 93rd at 83.
Tennessee's Micheala Williams, Vanderbilt's Auston Kim and Maryland's Virunpat Olankitkunchai held the first-day lead after shooting 2-under 70s. Anna Redding (Virginia), Courtney Zeng (Vanderbilt), Mariah Smith (Tennessee), Siranon Shoomee (ECU) and Florida State teammates Beatrice Wallin and Amanda Doherty were tied for fourth at 71.
The top-6 teams and top-3 individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 17-22 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
The NCAA Auburn Regional is one of four Regional sites across the nation, hosting a 72 total teams.

SECOND-ROUND PAIRINGS
Tuesday's Second Round tees off at 8 a.m., with split-tee starts. The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from No. 27 Clemson and No. 35 Kennesaw State.
Elich begins the Second Round at 9 a.m., off No. 10 with Martinez (9:10 a.m.), Rayner (9:20 a.m.), Screen (9:30 a.m.) and Harm (9:40 a.m.) following.

NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
Houston has qualified for NCAA Regional play as a team every season in which the team was eligible. The program started in 2013-14 with four student-athletes competing as individuals at tournaments but was not allowed to compete as a team that year, per NCAA rules.
This is the second-highest seeding the Cougars received in NCAA Regional play. Houston competed as the No. 7 seed at the 2018 NCAA Austin Regional.
Harm is competing in her fourth straight NCAA Regional, joining Megan Thothong as the only Cougars to accomplish that feat. A year ago, she fired a Final-Round 65 at the Austin Regional to force a playoff and won on the seventh hole to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual qualifier for the second time in her career.
Elich is competing in the second Regional of her career, becoming the eighth player in school history to play in multiple NCAA postseason events.
Rayner, Martinez and Screen are making their NCAA postseason debuts.
