Montgomery and Lattin rewrite record book on second day of prelims
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Houston Cougars Track & Field program closed out the second day of the NCAA West Prelims with seven punched tickets to the NCAA Championships, two program records and various Cougars securing lanes in the quarterfinals of their individual events.

ABOUT THE NCAA WEST REGION
Â
The NCAA West Regional is a three-day event held on the campus of CSU-Sacramento. The top individuals from the West Region will be in attendance vying for the top-12 spots in each individual event. The regional includes the top-24 relay squads from the West. The top-six relays and the top-12 individual competitors will advance to the NCAA Championships June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON THE MEN'S SIDE
Â
Heading into the meet with the top-time in the region in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles, Amere Lattin cruised to a first-place finish in his heat to automatically qualify for the quarterfinals of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.77.

The senior would continue to have a stellar showing on the track as he posted a program record and lifetime best in the quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles. Lattin clocked a time of 49.45, besting his previous lifetime best, program record and conference record to take first-place in his heat.

Quivell Jordan will be joining Lattin in Austin after hurdling to a fourth-place finish in his heat with a personal best time of 50.11.

Kahmari Montgomery wasted no time as he made a statement in the 400-meter dash. The senior posted a collegiate best, program record and conference record en route to his top finish in the event. Montgomery ran a blazing fast 44.78, the third-fastest time in the collegiate ranks this season, to book his ticket to the NCAA Championships.

Obi Igbokwe secured his lane in Austin, cruising to a first-place finish in his heat with a season best time of 45.35, finishing sixth-overall.

The 100-meter dash would conclude with a pair of Cougars in the top-12 of the standings as Mario Burke once again won his heat and finished third overall at 10.08. Travis Collins ran his way into second-place in his heat at 10.31 and punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships.

The 200-meter dash quarterfinals will be highlighted by five Houston sprinters. Burke led the squad with a first-place finish in his heat and fourth-place finish overall at 20.40. The time marks a lifetime best for the senior and is tied for fifth all-time at Houston with Head Coach Leroy Burrell.

With a fifth-place finish overall and first-place finish in his heat, Montgomery will advance to the quarterfinals with a time of 20.43. Edward Sumler IV secured a lane in tomorrow's quarterfinals after running a personal best time of 20.75 and taking third-place in his heat. Nicholas Alexander secured an automatic qualifying spot in the quarterfinals after clocking a time of 20.78. Freshman Jordan Booker will conclude the field for Houston and continue his season after posting a time of 20.86 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 200-meter.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE

Coming in with the ninth-best time in the region, sophomore Naomi Taylor clinched a second-place finish in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles and advanced to the quarterfinals of the event. Taylor closed out the race with a time of 13.13, nearly besting her lifetime best in the event and posting the fourth fastest time in program history.

Ashley Seymour continues to have a stellar debut season for Houston after punching her ticket to the NCAA Championships in the 100-meter dash. Seymour posted a personal best time of 11.40 to advance. The freshman would make her second appearance of the day in the 200-meter dash where she clocked a time of 23.61 to clinch the final qualifying spot to advance to tomorrow's quarterfinals.

The Cougars will return to action tomorrow with the men's shot put at 2:45 p.m. PT, followed by track events beginning at 6 p.m. PT.
