Devon Roedahl Named Newcomer Pitcher of the Year

Five Cougars garner All-Conference honors
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior right-hander Devon Roedahl was named The American Athletic Conference Newcomer Pitcher of the Year, as five members of the University of Houston Baseball team garnered postseason honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Voted on by the league's head coaches, sophomore southpaw Clay Aguilar was named to The American First Team, while Roedahl, junior right-hander Fred Villarreal, senior first baseman Joe Davis and junior third baseman Jared Triolo were tabbed to the Second Team.

CLAY AGUILAR
The American First Team (P)
• Posted a 6-3 record and 2.81 ERA across 15 appearances with 12 starts in the regular season
• Finished fourth in The American in ERA (2.95) and tied for fourth in wins (6)
• Recorded 70 strikeouts to 21 walks
• Held opponents to a .235 batting average
• Picked up conference wins at Wichita State (4/13), vs. Cincinnati (4/19) and at USF (4/27)
• Also recorded wins in starts vs. Sam Houston State (3/26), and vs. UNLV (5/5) as well as out of the bullpen vs. UTSA (3/12)
• Recorded career-high nine strikeouts vs. No. 11 ECU (4/6)
• Named to Don Sanders Cup All-Series Team

DEVON ROEDAHL
The American Newcomer Pitcher of the Year/Second Team (P)
• Posted a 7-2 record with four saves across 29 appearances with one start in the regular season
• Recorded a 3.79 ERA with 59 strikeouts
• Finished tied for second The American in wins (7), with all coming out of the bullpen
• Tied for third in the conference appearances (29), a mark which is tied for 29th in the NCAA
• Fifth in the league in opponent batting average (.217)
• Picked up wins at Memphis (3/31) and vs. Cincinnati (4/20), and recorded a save at Wichita State (4/14) in conference play
• Also picked up wins vs. Northwestern State (2/15, 2/16), vs. Army (3/10), at Lamar (4/2) and at Rice (5/1) as well as saves vs. Army (3/8), at Dallas Baptist (3/15) and vs. UNLV (5/4)
• Named to The American Weekly Honor Roll on March 11
• Named to All-Silver Glove Series Team

FRED VILLARREAL

• Posted a 5-3 record with 10 saves across 32 appearances in the regular season
• Recorded a 2.20 ERA with 43 strikeouts
• Tied for 12th in the nation in appearances (32) and 33rd in saves (10)
• Finished third in The American in ERA (2.20) and opponent batting average (.210)
• Picked up wins at Wichita State (4/14) and vs. Tulane (5/11) and recorded saves vs. UConn (3/23), at Memphis (3/31), vs. No. 11 ECU (4/5), vs. Cincinnati (4/19) and at UCF (5/17) in conference play

• Broke The American's career doubles record with 52nd career two-bagger at UCF (5/16), passing David Villar (51, USF, 2016-18)
• Hit two-run, walk-off home run for a 9-7 win in series finale against Army on March 10 to complete the series sweep
