
Houston to Compete in NCAA Austin Regional

Cougars participate in NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team was selected as the No. 2 seed in the Austin Regional starting Friday, May 17, the Cougars learned Sunday night during the 2019 NCAA Softball Championship Selection Show.
Under third-year Head Coach Kristin Vesely, the Cougars enter the Regional with at 37-17 record and will face No. 3 Texas A&M at 1 p.m., Friday on ESPN3. Houston's 37 wins are the most regular season wins for the Cougars since 2013.
Houston joins the Regional with host and No. 10 national seed Texas, as well as No. 4 Sam Houston State. This season, the Cougars have defeated the Aggies and the Bearkats.
The 2019 NCAA postseason berth is Houston's ninth in program history. Last season, the Cougars competed in the Baton Rouge Regional, the program's first regional showing since 2014.
THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Regionals for the 2019 Division I Softball Championship will be held May 17-19 on 16 campus sites. At each campus site, a four-team, double-elimination tournament will be conducted with the 16 winning teams advancing to the Super Regionals.
Super Regionals will be held May 23-26 on eight campus sites. At each site, two teams play in a best-of-three game format. The winners from each site advance to the NCAA Women's College World Series.
The WCWS will be held at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium – OGE Energy Field in Oklahoma City, Okla., across May 30-June 5. The eight teams will compete in a double elimination bracket with the final two team then competing in a best of three format.
