Houston Among Top 15 in Final National Polls

Cougars at No. 11 in final Associated Press Poll, finish at No. 12 in USA TODAY Coaches’ poll
HOUSTON – For the second straight season, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program finished among the nation's best in both national polls.Under the leadership of two-time American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars received 470 points in the final USA TODAY Coaches' poll to rank No. 12 nationally and earned 963 points in the final Associated Press poll on March 18 to finish at No. 11.
Houston, which finished the 2018-19 season with a school-record 33 wins, captured The American regular-season championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, began receiving votes on Nov. 26 and entered the Top 25 in both polls on Dec. 10.
This marked the 16th consecutive week in which the Cougars were ranked in 2018-19.
It also marked the first time since 1983-84 that the Cougars were ranked in both final national polls in consecutive seasons. A year ago, the Cougars ended the year at No. 21 in the Associated Press poll and at no. 22 in the final USA TODAY Coaches' poll.
In 2019-20, the Cougars return seven lettermen, including starters Armoni Brooks and Fabian White Jr., American Athletic Conference All-Freshmen Team member Nate Hinton and the league's Sixth Man of the Year, DeJon Jarreau.
Houston also will be boosted with the addition of redshirts junior forward Justin Gorham and freshman guard Caleb Mills and freshmen J'Wan Roberts and Marcus Sasser.
