HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• The walk-off victory for the Cougars is their fourth of the season.
• Bielamowicz finished 2-for-3 with a career-high three stolen bases. His three stolen bases marked a first for Houston since Connor Wong swiped three bags in a 16-3 win over Texas Southern on March 22, 2017, at Schroeder Park.
• Making his first career start at third base, Esau finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, all career highs. His two doubles marked the first time a Cougar had accomplished the feat since Burckel did so in Houston's series finale with UConn on March 24.
• Burckel went 2-for-4 with a career-high two stolen bases.
• Outfielders Rey Fuentes III and freshman Johnathon Thomas each singled, respectively.
Pitching:
• For a second straight game, seven Cougars threw in the win.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Fred Villarreal (3-1) picked up the win in relief. Villarreal retired all three batters faced, striking out one, in a scoreless ninth inning. The appearance marked his fourth straight and team-leading 17th overall of the season.
• Sophomore Jared Pettitte tossed one and one-third innings in a no-decision. Pettitte retires the side, striking out two, in the opening frame before taking a line drive off his throwing arm in the second inning.
• Sophomores Ron Brown and Spencer Hynes combined to finish the second inning. In total, Hynes worked three innings going into the fifth.
• Junior Carter Henry recorded a strikeout in his lone batter faced to close the fifth.
