Earns Houston’s third Player honor of 2019; Heebner named to Weekly Honor Roll
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Houston Softball junior infielder Arielle James has been named The American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The weekly honor marks the second of her career and third for the Cougrs this season.
James helped lead Houston to a 3-1 record and a conference series win over UCF, after posting three multi-hit outings, which included a three-hit performance in the Cougars' series-clinching win over the Knights. Those three hits tied a career high.
To start off the week, James guided the Cougars to a 4-3, comeback win over Texas State, where she doubled home the game-tying and go-ahead runs with two outs in the top of the seventh. In the rubber match against UCF, James recorded the first triple of her career.

In addition to James' accolade, senior pitcher Savannah Heebner was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll. In two appearances in the circle, Heebner went 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA across 14 innings pitched, where she earned both of the Houston's wins against UCF.
Heebner also put her efficiency on display, earning each win using less than 100 pitches. She helped her own cause at the plate, posting a .571 batting average and driving in two runs, while scoring another in the games she pitched.

Houston returns home on Tuesday, when the Cougars host Sam Houston State for the final midweek battle of the 2019 season. First pitch for that contest is slated for 6 p.m.
