
Houston Concludes Second Day at Mt. Sac With Trio of Top-Three Finishes

Cougars closeout strong second day at Mt. Sac
TORRANCE, Calif. – The University of Houston Track & Field team continued competition at the 2019 Mt. Sac Relays, closing out the day with a trio of top-three finishes.

The Cougars got going early with Quivell Jordan advancing to the final in the 110-meter hurdles after taking second place in his heat at 14.14. Jordan closed out the day with a seventh-place finish in the finals of the event with a time of 14.48.
In the collegiate 1500-meter run Meredith Sorenson cruised to a third-place finish after a setting a new personal-record in the event with a time of 4:35.51. On the men's side, Blake Contreras recorded a third-place finish in the 1500-meter run, finishing at 3:57.73.
In the women's 100-meter dash, Ashley Seymour advanced to the final after finishing second in her heat at 11.74. Seymour concluded the day with a fourth-place finish in the final at 11.61. On the men's side, Nicholas Alexander moved on to the 100-meter dash finals after taking first in his heat at 10.50. in the final, Alexander finished in fourth-place at 10.49.
Seymour continued to have a successful day on the track after taking first-place in her heat and fourth-place overall in the 200-Meter dash. The freshman closed out the event with a time of 24.02.
Cameron Laverty took top honors in the 800-meter run, winning the event with a time of 1:51.22.
In the field, the Cougars compiled three top-three finishes. In the collegiate discus, Hailey Pollard earned a fourth-place, posting a mark of 157-10 (48.10) on her second attempt. Ryan Pickering finished right behind Pollard in fifth-place, her best throw coming on her first attempt at 155-00 (47.28).
Mikaila Martin turned in a fifth-place finish in the shotput, recording her best throw on her fourth attempt at 41-10.75 (12.77).
In the men's discus Kenneth Sessums finished in fifth-place with a throw of 161-02 (49.13) on his final attempt.
Cougars will resume action tomorrow at the Mt. Sac Relays and kickoff action at the J. Fred Duckett Invitational on the campus of Rice University.
