
Rally Falls Short in Series Opener with Cincinnati

Jared Triolo goes 3-for-4
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team fell to Cincinnati, 3-2, on Thursday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
With the decision, the Cougars move to 22-16 on the season and 6-7 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bearcats move to 18-19 overall and 8-5 in league action.
KEY INNINGS
5th | Cincinnati got on the board behind a three-run home run in the top of the fifth.
6th | Houston scored one run on three straight singles in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman second baseman Brad Burckel and sophomore Kyle Lovelace each singled to center field to open the frame. In the next at-bat, junior third baseman Jared Triolo plated Burckel with a single into the left-center gap.
9th | The Cougars rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Senior first baseman Joe Davis singled to open the final frame. After a fielder's choice, junior right fielder Tyler Bielamowicz singled through the right side of the infield, and junior shortstop Kobe Hyland followed with a single to center field to load the bases. One batter later, freshman designated hitter Derrick Cherry made it a 3-2 ballgame with a RBI single up the middle, before a strikeout and groundout ended the game.
HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Triolo tied his season high with three hits in a 3-for-4 effort with one RBI and one stolen base.
• Cherry went 1-for-4, highlighted by his RBI single in the ninth inning.
• Davis and Lovelace each finished 1-for-2, respectively. Davis also drew two intentional walks.
• Bielamowicz, Hyland and Burckel all singled in 1-for-4 showings.
• Burckel and senior left fielder Rey Fuentes III each crossed home plate for the Cougars.
Pitching:
• Junior southpaw Lael Lockhart Jr. (3-5) suffered the loss. He allowed two runs on seven hits across four and two-third innings in the start.
• Making his fifth appearance in Houston's last six games, junior Devon Roedahl logged the final four and one-third innings, allowing one run on two hits. Roedahl retired the last 11 batters he faced.
ON DECK
The Cougars will look to even the series in a 6:30 p.m. first pitch on Friday.
PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
