Heebner retires 16-straight in victory
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team clinched its second conference series win of the season on Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over UConn.
With the victory over the Huskies (15-23, 4-7 AAC), the Cougars head into Sunday's series finale with a 28-15 mark on the year and 5-6 record in American Athletic Conference play. The victory also marks the sixth time this season that Houston has stormed back to win a game after an opponent took the first lead.
Tonight's contest saw a pair of multiple-hit outings from senior outfielder Maya Thomas and junior infielder Arielle James, who each recorded three hits. Together, the two of them went a combined 6-for-7 on the night with a pair of runs scored.
In the circle, senior pitcher Savannah Heebner went the distance and tossed her 16th complete-game of the season, surrendering just three hits in the process. After allowing a run in the first, Heebner bounced back to retire 16 consecutive batters, where she struck out four hitters during that stretch.

KEY INNINGS
1st | The Huskies came out firing, as a pair of doubles in the inning from UConn quickly put them ahead by a score.
3rd | After junior infielder Arielle James collected her second hit of the game, senior pitcher Savannah Heebner brought her home with a double to right field, tying the game at one. The Cougars continued the rally thanks to an RBI single from sophomore infielder Tierrah Williams that scored Heebner, giving Houston its first lead of the game, 2-1.
5th | With two outs in the inning, senior outfielder Maya Thomas started a rally with her third hit of the game and following a double from sophomore infielder Aspen Howie, the Cougars put an insurance run on the board to hold a 3-1 lead.
