Cougars to play midweek twin bill for second straight week
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team steps out of American Athletic Conference play for two games, visiting Lamar on Tuesday in Beaumont, Texas, and hosting FIU on Wednesday at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
Tuesday's game at Lamar gets underway at 6 p.m. from Vincent-Beck Stadium, while the Cougars' home tilt with FIU is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start. Wednesday's game against FIU is presented by Aspen Heights.
Houston was originally scheduled to visit Lamar on Feb. 26 before the game was postponed due to thunderstorms.

SINGLES
• A homecoming of sorts, Tuesday's game marks a return home for Beaumont native Devon Roedahl as well for teammates Grayson Padgett (China, Texas) and Carter Henry (Port Neches, Texas)
• Houston, in the midst of a stretch of 10 games in 13 days, enters the week with a 14-13 overall record and 2-4 mark in American Athletic Conference play.
• Playing their second straight week with two midweek games, the Cougars picked up midweek wins over Sam Houston State, 2-1, on Tuesday at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park and at Stephen F. Austin, 16-1, in seven innings on Wednesday in Nacogdoches, Texas.
• Tuesday's win against the Bearkats marked the 300th career victory for Head Coach Todd Whitting.
• On Wednesday at SFA, the Cougars scratched across 16 runs on 17 hits. Senior first baseman Joe Davis went 4-for-5 with two multi-run home runs, six RBI and two runs scored. The four hits and six RBI each tied career highs, while the multi-homer performance is the first for Houston since Davis hit two at UConn on May 11, 2018.
• In the series finale at Memphis on Sunday, Davis recorded his 51st career double to tie David Villar (USF, 2016-18) for The American career record.
• For the week, Davis batted .421 with four extra-base hits, including three home runs, and 10 RBI.
• Davis leads The American and is tied for 10th in the NCAA in RBI (37). He is also tied for ninth in the nation in home runs (11) and is 19th in slugging percentage (.733), marks which ranks second and third in the conference, respectively. The Austin native also leads the team in batting average (.351), hits (34), doubles (7), walks (14) and on-base percentage (.343).
• Junior right-handed pitcher Devon Roedahl co-leads The American in wins (4), with all coming out of the bullpen.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Fred Villarreal leads conference in ERA (1.47) and is tied for second in saves (5).
• Villarreal co-led the nation with a 0.00 ERA through Houston's first 10 games. His streak without allowing an earned run to start the season ended at 13 and one-third innings with two runs surrendered against Rice on March 5.
• Senior designated hitter Rey Fuentes III was named to the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic All-Tournament Team on March 5. At the tournament, Fuentes III batted .300 with one double, one home run, one RBI and three runs scored. The homer, which came against Texas State on March 2, was the first of his career.
• Houston is batting .233 as a team and has a 3.98 ERA, compared to opponents' .231 average and 4.09 ERA.
ON LAMAR
• The Cardinals enter the week with a 9-7 overall record and 2-10 mark in Southland Conference play.
• In a five-game homestand, Lamar was swept by Nicholls over the weekend.
• Sophomore right fielder Avery George leads the Cardinals in batting average (.337), hits (37) and stolen bases (7).
• Junior left fielder Cole Coker was named Preseason All-SLC First Team. Coker was named to the All-SLC Second Team as a utility player in 2018.
• The Cardinals were picked to finish eighth in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
• Lamar is batting .303 as a team and has a 4.86 ERA, compared to opponents' .273 average and 6.13 ERA.
ON FIU
• The Panthers enter Wednesday with an 11-17 overall record and 2-7 mark in Conference USA play.
• FIU is on a seven-game losing streak and will play its next four games in Houston with a series at Rice following the matchup with the Cougars.
• Senior left fielder senior Lorenzo Hampton Jr. leads the team in batting average (.312), doubles (7) and runs score (17).
• Junior third baseman Austin Shenton was named Preseason All-CUSA. Shenton was named to the All-CUSA Second Team in 2018.
• FIU, which finished sixth in the league in 2018, was picked fifth in the CUSA Preseason Poll entering the 2019 season.
• The Panthers are batting .227 as a team and have a 3.91 ERA, compared to opponents' .254 average and 4.12 ERA.
ON DECK
Following Wednesday, the Cougars return to play in The American hosting ECU in a three-game series starting Friday.
PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
