Two Cougars tabbed for all-conference honors for third consecutive season
UNCASVILLE, Conn. –For the third consecutive season, two Cougars were tabbed for regular-season awards as junior forward Dorian Branch and junior guard Angela Harris earned second and third team all-conference honors, respectively.
Branch has been pivotal in the success of the Houston squad, heading into conference play averaging 4.2 points per game and closing out the regular-season averaging 10.8 points per game. The junior posted a career-high 21 points against East Carolina and has emerged as one of the conference's best three-point shooters. Branch closed out the regular-season with double-figure efforts in five of the last six games. The award marks the first regular-season award for Branch, as she becomes the second Cougar under Head Coach Ronald Hughey to earn second team all-conference honors.
Harris has been a mainstay in the lineup for the Cougars since her freshman season. This season Harris took over as team facilitator, dishing out a team-high 88 assists. On Feb. 5, Harris become the third Cougars to hit 1,000 career-points this season, reaching the milestone in only three seasons. Harris earns preseason accolades and was named to the preseason all-conference second team. The award marks the third regular-season honor for Harris and is the second consecutive year that Harris has earned third team all-conference honors.
Houston closed out the regular-season, matching last season's program-record nine wins in The American. The Cougars will begin play on Saturday at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championships as the four-seed, earning a first-round bye for the first time in program history.
