Joe Davis ties American Athletic Conference record with 51st career double
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The University of Houston Baseball team overcame a 3-0 deficit for a 4-3 victory over Memphis on Sunday afternoon at FedExPark.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 14-13 on the season and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers move to 13-13 overall and 3-3 in league action.
KEY INNINGS
3rd | An RBI single and RBI double gave Memphis a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
5th | The Tigers added another run on a throwing error in the fifth.
7th | Houston rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh. Senior Rey Fuentes III hit a pinch-hit, leadoff home run to right center to open the frame. After freshman second baseman Brad Burckel and freshman center fielder Johnathon Thomas each walked, junior Jared Triolo delivered Burckel with a single through the right side of the infield.
8th | The Cougars had another two-run frame in the eighth. Junior shortstop Kobe Hyland walked to open the inning. In the next at-bat enior first baseman Joe Davis doubled home Hyland with a two-bagger to right center to tie the game. After advancing to third on a balk, Davis came home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Fuentes III for the 4-3 final.
HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Davis finished 1-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. The double was the 51st of his career, tying David Villar (USF, 2016-18) for The American career record.
• Fuentes III was called on in the eighth inning and delivered a two-RBI effort in a 1-for-2 showing with a home run and fielder's choice.
• Triolo and junior left fielder Tyler Bielamowicz each collected two hits, respectively. Triolo added an RBI.
Pitching:
• Junior right-handed pitcher Devon Roedahl (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season, which co-leads The American. Roedahl tossed one and one-third scoreless innings in a Johnny Wholestaff effort.
• Senior Nolan Bond issued three runs (two earned) on five hits in four innings pitched before giving way to the bullpen.
• Juniors Sean Bretz and Tristen Bayless each faced two batters to combine for a scoreless fifth.
• Junior Brayson Hurdsman limited the Tigers to one hit in an inning and one-third before being relived by Roedahl in the seventh.
• Junior Fred Villarreal retired all three batters faced in the ninth to record his fifth save of the season. His five saves are tied for second in the conference.
ON DECK
The Cougars will close their five-game road swing in a 6 p.m., Tuesday bout with Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.

Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
