Houston Completes Comeback in Walk-Off Fashion

HOUSTON – A two-out RBI single from junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart in the bottom of the ninth lifted the University of Houston Softball team to a 3-2 win over McNeese on Wednesday night.
The victory sealed the comeback win for the Cougars (24-9), who trailed the Cowgirls (15-19) in the bottom of the seventh. Houston tied the game in the seventh thanks to a pinch-hit solo home run from sophomore infielder Tierrah Williams.
Senior pitcher Savannah Heebner tossed all nine innings, falling one frame short of tying her career-high. She finished the contest allowing just three hits and striking out five batters, needing only 104 pitches to earn her eighth victory of the season.

KEY INNINGS
1st | The Cougars continued their season-long trend of finding themselves on the board in the first frame, as junior infielder Lindsey Stewart came around to score, courtesy of senior pitcher Savannah Heebner. Houston is now 11-0 on the year when scoring in the first inning and 19-2 when scoring first.
2nd | A two-run home run from the Cowgirls put them ahead by a run and claim a 2-1 lead.
5th | With a runner at third base, Heebner ended the two-out threat in the top of the inning with her fourth strikeout of the game.
7th | Coming off the bench and pinch hitting, sophomore infielder Tierrah Williams blasted a solo home run to tie the score at two and keep the Cougars alive in the game.
9th | After senior Maya Thomas led the inning off with a single, a sacrifice bunt from senior infielder Rachel Hill put Thomas in scoring position. Once sophomore infielder Aspen Howie walked to put a pair of runners on, Stewart stepped up to the plate and singled home Thomas from second to seal the 3-2 win for the Cougars.
