Senior infielder singles home go-ahead run in the seventh
WICHITA, Kan. – A two-out, bases-loaded single from senior Rachel Hill in the top of the seventh helped the University of Houston Softball team comeback and take down Wichita State 5-4 on Saturday.
Heading into the rubber match contest between the two squads, the Cougars sit at 22-9 on the season and improve to 1-1 in The American, while the Shockers move to 20-10 and 1-1 in conference play.
Hill led the Cougars with her two RBIs on the day, as junior infielder Arielle James posted a team-high two hits in the contest, scoring two runs in the process. Senior pitcher Presley Bell earned the victory and improved to 7-1 on the season.

KEY INNINGS
1st | After junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart got the Cougars on the board by scoring off a wild pitch, senior pitcher Savannah Heebner drove in junior infielder Arielle James to quickly put Houston ahead by two runs.
4th | Wichita State put its first runs on the board in the inning and took a one-run lead courtesy of a two-run home run to claim hold of a 4-3 advantage.
7th | The Cougars showed their fight and will to never back down from the challenge. After junior infielder Sarah Queen walked to load the bases with two outs, senior infielder Rachel Hill stepped up to the plate and singled home James and Heebner to give the Cougars a 5-4 lead. Once the Cougars entered the bottom of the seventh, senior pitcher Presley Bell retired the side in order to seal Houston's first conference win of the 2019 campaign.
ON DECK
Houston and Wichita State will square off for in the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for noon.
