Cougars use five-run fourth inning to even series
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team defeated UConn, 5-4, on Saturday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
With the decision, the Cougars improve to 11-10 on the season and 1-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Huskies fall to 12-8 and 1-1 in league action.
KEY INNINGS
1st | UConn scored three runs on two hits and two walks in the top of the first inning.
4th | Houston rallied with a five-run fifth inning to take the lead. With one out, junior right fielder Lael Lockhart Jr. and freshman center fielder Johnathon Thomas bookended a walk to junior shortstop Kobe Hyland with singles to the pitcher to load the bases. Junior Tyler Bielamowicz plated Lockhart Jr. with a pinch-hit walk. Senior center fielder Grayson Padgett followed with an infield single to deliver Hyland, before freshman designated hitter Derrick Cherry cleared the bases with a double off the left-field wall to give the Cougars a 5-3 advantage.
5th | The Huskies scored one run in the top of the fifth for the 5-4 final.
HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Cherry recorded his first career hit with a three-run, go-ahead double in a 1-for-4 showing.
• Hyland finished 2-for-3 with two singles, one walk and one run scored.
• Lockhart Jr. was 2-for-4 with two singles, one walk and one run scored.
• Burckel, Davis, Padgett and Thomas all singled in 1-for-4 efforts, respectively.
• Junior third baseman Jared Triolo collected his team-leading third stolen base after reaching on an error in the third inning.
Pitching:
• Senior right-handed pitcher Nolan Bond (1-0) picked up his first win of the season with two and one-third innings of scoreless relief. Bond, who entered in the top of the fifth inning, limited UConn to one hit while walking and striking out one apiece.
• Senior Ryan Randel issued four runs on five hits across four and two-third innings in the no-decision.
• Junior Fred Villarreal tossed two scoreless innings, retiring all six batters he faced with one strikeout, to record his team-leading third save of the season.

Houston goes for the series win in the 11:30 a.m. rubber game on Sunday.

PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
