Houston Men No. 6 in Initial Outdoor Rankings

Team ranking bolstered by five top-10 event rankings
HOUSTON – Fresh off a national runner-up finish at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Houston men debuted at No. 6 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national outdoor rankings Monday.

The Cougars were bolstered by five top-10 event rankings led by its 4x100-meter relay, ranked No. 1 in the nation after clocking a time of 38.82 at last Thursday's Houston Spring Break Invitational.

Senior Amere Lattin ranks No. 7 in the 400-meter hurdles, also ranking No. 12 in the 110-meter hurdles, while Houston claims two top-10 rankings in the 400-meter dash from No. 6 Kahmari Montgomery and No. 7 Obi Igbokwe. Junior multi-athlete Nathaniel Mechler rounds out the group at No. 10 in the decathlon.

The Houston women rank No. 35 in the initial USTFCCCA rankings, led by junior Samiyah Samuels who is ranked No. 4 it the long jump.

Houston returns action this weekend with athletes attending the Victor Lopez Classic on Friday and Saturday at Rice, and select relays attending the Prairie View Relays on Saturday.
