
RV/RV Houston Splits Games to Open Season

Cougars take down No. 13/15 Kentucky
The Cougars (1-1) began its season taking down No. 13/15 Kentucky, 4-3, before falling, 5-1, to No. 22/21 Oklahoma State (1-1).
Over the course of both games, senior pitcher Savannah Heebner went 2-for-6 with and RBI. Against the Wildcats (0-1), she tossed a complete game and struck out three batters.
Redshirt senior outfielder Sarah Barker scored the Cougars' lone run against the Cowgirls (1-1), courtesy of an RBI from sophomore utility Tierrah Williams. That game also saw junior Trystan Melancon punch out seven batters.
KEY INNINGS
3rd | After Kentucky took the first lead of the game in the top of the inning, Houston came right back and tied the score in the bottom half. With freshmen outfielder Bethany Busch standing on third with two outs, redshirt senior outfielder Sarah Barker stepped up to the plate and drove in the Cougars' first run, tying the score at one.
5th | The Wildcats reclaimed the lead with a two-run home run.
6th | Crossing the plate three times in the inning, Houston took its first advantage of the game. Senior Maya Thomas came up to bat with a pair of runners on and after putting the ball in play, both sophomore infielder Caela Kincade and junior infielder Sarah Queen scored to knot the game at three. The Cougars then plated the go-ahead run when senior pitcher Savannah Heebner doubled home Thomas from second.

KEY INNINGS
3rd | Oklahoma State jumped out to the first lead, scoring a run in the inning off a triple down the left field line.
4th | The Cougars tied the game at one, thanks to double from sophomore utility Tierrah Williams, scoring redshirt senior outfielder Sarah Barker on the play.
5th | OSU responded quickly and plated a pair of runs, having never looked back from that point forward.

The Cougars continue its opening weekend with a pair of games on Saturday. Houston will face No. 13/15 Kentucky at 4:30 p.m. and Illinois at 7 p.m.
Both games will be played at Cougar Softball Stadium and can be streamed online at uhcougars.com.
