Houston Set to Host ICON Invitational

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Golf program will host the ICON Invitational beginning Monday morning at the Woodlands Country Club.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins with 36 holes Monday on the 6,392-yard, par-72 course and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday. Teams will tee off with 8 a.m., shotgun starts on both days.

TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will host No. 9 Kent State, No. 18 Clemson, No. 20 TCU, No. 27 Purdue, No. 35 Baylor, Kansas State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech and UTSA.
THE LINEUP
Under the leadership of 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Gerrod Chadwell, the Cougars will be represented by senior All-American Leonie Harm, junior Amanda Elich, freshman Hannah Screen, senior Maddy Rayner and freshman Maria Jose Martinez.
Seniors Tatiana Pineda and Yuka Kajiki will compete as individuals.
Harm is coming off of an impressive first-place finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship in New Orleans on Feb. 19.
The Gerlingen, Germany, native carded a 69 in the Second Round, thanks to six birdies. Her Second-Round performance brought her to within striking distance of the leaders, and with a steady Final Round, she tied for medalist honors with a score of even-par 216 for the second individual title of her career.
Elich also recorded a career-best finish in New Orleans. With a Final-Round 70, the West Linn., Ore., native surged into a tie for third at 217.
Screen ranks second among the Cougars with a 73.38 average and five rounds of par or better this season.
FIRST-DAY PAIRINGS
Monday's First Round begins with an 8 a.m., shotgun start with the Second Round following immediately after around 1 p.m. The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Clemson and SMU.
Elich begins the tournament in the first group off No. 1 with Harm (second group off No. 1), Screen (second group off No. 3), Rayner (first group off No. 4) and Martinez (No. 3) following.
UP NEXT
Following the ICON Invitational, the Cougars head to Mesa, Ariz., to compete in the Clover Cup at the Longbow Golf Club on March 15-17.
From there, Houston competes at the Mountainview Collegiate, hosted by Missouri at The Preserve at Saddlebrooke in Tucson, Ariz., on March 22-24.
