Houston Sweeps The American Weekly Awards

Guard Corey Davis Jr. named Player of the Week; Forward Cedrick Alley Jr. honored as Freshman of the Week
HOUSTON – After leading the University of Houston Men's Basketball program to wins against top of the Top-3 programs in the league, senior guard Corey Davis Jr. and redshirt freshman forward Cedrick Alley Jr. sweep the American Athletic Conference weekly awards Monday.
Davis was named the league's Player of the Week for the first time this season, while Alley was recognized as its Freshman of the Week for the second time in 2018-19.
Both student-athletes led the Cougars to a 77-68 win at UCF – the league's preseason favorite – in Orlando on Thursday and followed that with a gritty 65-58 victory over No. 25/23 Cincinnati on Sunday inside the Fertitta Center to take sole possession of first place in The American.
Davis averaged a team-best 21.0 points per game while hitting 56.6 percent of his shots from the field with 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in the wins.
The Lafayette, La., native posted a career-high 26 points in Thursday's win at UCF and added three rebounds and five assists. He followed that with a team-high-tying 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, including three offensive, with a pair of steals in the home win over the Bearcats.
This season, Davis leads the Cougars with 15.5 points per game and has recorded eight 20-point games. This was the first Player of the Week honor in his career.
Alley received his second weekly award this season with his performance last week. The Houston native and Klein Forest High School product averaged 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Alley drained three 3-pointers on the way to nine points with four rebounds and a steal in the road win at UCF and posted six points off a pair of treys with two rebounds and a blocked shot against No. 25/23 Cincinnati on Sunday.
David Collins (USF), Jarron Cumberland (Cincinnati), Aubrey Dawkins (UCF), Jeremiah Martin (Memphis) and Markis McDuffie (Wichita State) were named to the league's Honor Roll.

• Davis, Alley and the Cougars hit the road for a pair of American Athletic Conference games this week.
• The road swing begins at 6 p.m. (CST) Thursday, against UConn inside the XL Center in Hartford, Conn... Will be the lone regular-season meeting against the Huskies... Game will be shown on ESPN and can be heard on KPRC 950 AM.
• From there, the Cougars face Tulane at 1 p.m., Sunday, inside Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans in the lone regular-season meeting against the Green Wave... That game can be seen on CBS Sports Network and heard on KPRC 950 AM.

Limited tickets are available for the Cougars' remaining home games against USF (Feb. 23), UCF (March 2) and SMU (March 7). Single-game tickets begin for as low as $10.
