Houston Heads to NYC for Fordham Holiday Classic

Cougars open play against Hofstra
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team will head to New York for the Fordham Holiday Classic. The tournament includes Samford, Hofstra and host school Fordham. Houston will open play on Sunday afternoon against Hofstra at 2 p.m. CT inside the Rosehill Gymnasium.
GAME NOTES
COUGAR FASTBREAK
• Houston enters Sunday's game with a 6-6 overall record this season after defeating Southern Miss in in final home contest of its non-conference slate.
• Houston has two players averaging double-digits this season led by Dorian Branch with 12.4 points per game, she is followed by Tatyana Hill who is averaging 11.5 points per game. Julia Blackshell-Fair is third in scoring on the team providing 9.8 points per game.
• Houston is averaging 66.6 points per game on 39.3 percent shooting from the field and a 26.2 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 69.0 points per game on defense while letting opponents shoot 41.4 percent and 31.8 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
• Hill leads Houston on the glass, pulling down 6.3 rebounds per contest.
• Houston is a tough team to beat on the glass, averaging 16.3 offensive boards per game which is 16th nationally and third in The American
• Houston has forced 219 turnovers by its opponents this season, with 15 or more forced turnovers in 11 of its 12 games. Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars are experts at protecting the rim, entering the game ranked 62nd nationally in blocks (48) and 91st in Blocks Per Game (4.0).

• Hofstra enters its first season under Head Coach Danielle Santos Atkinson and is led in scoring by Ana Gil Hernandez who is averaging 11.0 points per game. Jaylen Hines leads the Pride on the boards with 7.6 rebounds per game, as Sorelle Ineza leads the squad with 35 assists this season.
