HOW IT HAPPENED
San Francisco jumped out to a quick start, scoring 10 consecutive points in the first three minutes of action to Houston's two. Early foul trouble would find Houston sophomore Tatyana Hill on the sidelines early, making room for KeAjsa Peace to score three early points as the Dons took an 16-10 lead to the huddle at the end of the first quarter.
The Cougars couldn't find an offensive rhythm for much of the second frame, scoring their first basket at the 7:30 mark by way of a three-pointer from Dorian Branch. Bria Patterson and Jazmaine Lewis would each take advantage of scoring opportunities as the Houston headed to the break trailing, 39-19.
Houston put pressure on the USF offense for much of the second half, in turn creating scoring opportunities that junior Julia Blackshell-Fair took advantage of. Blackshell-Fair scored 10 of her team-high 16 points in the third quarter, accounting for half of the Cougar scoring.
A 3-0 run from Houston to start the fourth quarter would cause a shift in momentum, but sharpshooting and trips to the free throw line for USF would ultimately results in Houston falling 80-57 in its final game in Victoria.
