NASSAU, Bahamas – University of Houston freshman Karen Fredgaard used a strong back nine to finish the Second Round of the White Sands Invitational in a tie for second at 7-under 137 on Tuesday afternoon.
Competing on the 6,145-yard, par-72 course at Ocean Club, Fredgaard overcame a bogey on her third hole of the day. Following that lone bogey, the Asserbo, Denmark, native made 10 consecutive pars before draining birdies on four of her final six holes, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 15-16.
Fredgaard, who stands at No. 68 in the latest Golfstat rankings, joined No. 58 Sara Kouskova (Texas) in a tie for second, four shots behind second-day leader No. 19 Sophie Guo (Texas).
As a team, the 28th-ranked Cougars stood in fifth with a score of 582. No. 3 Texas stood atop the leaderboard at 554 with No. 17 Arkansas (572), No. 41 Oklahoma (580), and No. 34 Georgia (580) rounding out the Top-5.
North Texas (583), No, 31 Clemson (584), No. 27 Baylor (587), No. 21 Mississippi State (587) and No. 48 Tennessee (588) completed the Top 10.
The tournament features 10 teams ranked in the nation's Top 5, including five in the Top 25.
Sophomore and 39th-ranked Hannah Screen was tied for 12th at even-par 144, while senior Brooke McDougald was tied for 28th at 147 after shooting a 72 in Tuesday's play.
Competing as an individual, senior Amanda Elich was tied for 34th at 148 and joined McDougald with 72s in the Second Round. Sophomore Annie Kim was tied for 71st at 154, while junior Ariana Saenz stood in 82nd at 165.
This marks the beginning of a busy week in the Bahamas for Houston Golf. Following the women's tournament, Houston Men's Golf will host the White Sands Invitational at Ocean Club, beginning Friday morning.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
For Wednesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Georgia and North Texas.
Screen begins at 7 a.m. (CDT) Wednesday, in the first group off No. 5 with Fredgaard (second group off No. 5), Kim (first group off No. 6), McDougald (second group off No. 6) and Saenz (second group off No. 7) following. Elich starts her day in the first group off No. 16.

Following the White Sands Invitational, the Cougars will take a break from action before opening the spring season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans on Feb. 16-18, 2020.
From there, Houston plays host to the ICON Invitational on Feb. 24-25 on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club on Feb. 24-25.
