Houston Ready to Host White Sands Invitational

Cougars make first trip to Bahamas for three-day tournament, beginning Monday morning

NASSAU, Bahamas – A busy week for Houston Golf in the Bahamas begins Monday morning with the First Round of the White Sands Invitational at Ocean Club.
Houston Women's Golf plays host to this event for the first time on the 6,415-yard, par-72 course with 18 holes scheduled, beginning with shotgun starts at 7 a.m. (CDT) each day through Wednesday.
Following the women's tournament, Houston Men's Golf will host the White Sands Invitational on Nov. 1-3.

THE FIELD
The White Sands Invitational features an elite field with nine of the teams among the Top 35.
The field includes No. 3 Texas, No. 17 Arkansas, No, 21 Mississippi State, No. 25 Ohio State, No. 27 Baylor, No. 30 Auburn, No. 31 Clemson, No. 34 Georgia, No. 41 Oklahoma, No 48 Tennessee, New Mexico, North Texas, SMU, Tulane and the 24th-ranked Cougars.
THE LINEUP
Houston will be represented by sophomore Hannah Screen, freshman Karen Fredgaard, sophomore Annie Kim, junior Ariana Saenz and senior Brooke McDougald. Senior Amanda Elich and sophomore Maria Jose Martinez will compete as freshmen.
This season, Screen leads the Cougars with a 70.67 scoring average and seven rounds of par or better, while Fredgaard stands second at 71.00 and six rounds.
FIRST-ROUND PAIRINGS
For Monday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Texas and Arkansas.
Screen begins at 7 a.m. (CDT) Monday off No. 1 with Fredgaard (first group off No. 2), Kim (second group off No. 2), Saenz (No. 3) and McDougald (No. 4) following. Martinez starts her day off No. 17 with Elich beginning of No. 18.

LAST TIME OUT
In their last tournament, the Cougars tied for seventh at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club on Oct. 20-21.
Fredgaard fired three straight rounds of par or better, including a 68 in the Second Round, to tie for ninth at 5-under 211. Screen added consecutive 71s in the first two rounds and tied for 17th at 212.
UP NEXT
Following the White Sands Invitational, the Cougars will take a break from action before opening the spring season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans on Feb. 16-18, 2020.
From there, Houston plays host to the ICON Invitational on Feb. 24-25 on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club on Feb. 24-25.
