Cougars win three events at Corky Classic
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Track & Field teams picked up three wins at the Texas Tech Corky Classic on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston was in limited action at the Corky Classic, but it opened in impressive fashion with a victory for Amere Lattin in the 60-meter hurdles. Lattin cleared the obstacles and crossed the line in 7.85 to take the gold, while Quivell Jordan also found the podium in a third-place finish in 8.01.
With the hurdles cleared, Brianne Bethel followed the first victory of the day with one of her own. Bethel clocked the nation's 12th-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles this season when she crossed the finish line in 7.41 for the victory.
The Cougars saved the best for last in the individual events when senior transfer Obi Igbokwe made his Houston debut in the 200-meter dash. Igbokwe set the fastest time in the world in the early season when he crossed the line in 20.84 to win the event. Lattin finished right on Igbokwe's heels in 20.99 to take second and move to No. 6 in the world this season.
Action concluded with the 4x400-meter relay, where the Cougars were in action in each of the women's and men's events. The women finished second with a time of 3:38.47, while the men also took silver in 3:08.51. The mark for the men is the fifth-fastest in program history.
