Schneider Climbs UH 5K Charts

Senior clocks third-best 5,000-meter run in program history
HOUSTON – Houston senior Jahnavi Schneider clocked the third-fastest 5,000-meter run in program history as the Houston Track & Field program opened the Charlie Thomas Invitational Friday with longest event of the indoor slate.

Schneider completed the 25-lap race in a time of 17:33.93 to move up to No. 3 on the Houston women's all-time chart for the event. With Schneider's mark Friday, the top-three marks in Houston's history in the event have all come in the last three years.
On the men's side, Houston freshman Jemal Wote finished fourth overall and third among collegiate athletes with a time of 15:04.15 while sophomore Devin Fahey was just behind with a PR of 15:04.20.
Saturday action for Houston is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the prelims of the 60-meter dash and the women's shot put. Action is scheduled to end at 5:45 p.m. with Saturday's action airing on SEC Network Plus.
Houston's entries are highlighted by three top-five rankings in the USTFCCCA rankings. The men's 4x400-meter relay enters Saturday ranked first nationally while junior weight thrower Taylor Scaife is second nationally. Mario Burke rounds out Saturday's top-five group, coming in at No. 5 in the 60-meter dash.
Other ranked Houston competitors scheduled to compete on Saturday include Obi Igbokwe and Kahmari Montgomery, ranked No. 16 and No. 30, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. On the women's side, Brianne Bethel enters Saturday ranked No. 31 in the 60-meter dash while Naomi Taylor is No. 32 in the 60-meter hurdles.

In addition to the Charlie Thomas Invitational, a small contingent of Houston athletes will also compete in the FasTrack Collegiate Open on Saturday, inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus. Live results for the event can be found here.
