Houston Shuts Out McNeese to Stay Perfect at Home

Cougars defeat McNeese 2-0 for perfect weekend
HOUSTON – The Houston Soccer team remains perfect inside the Carl Lewis Complex, defeating McNeese State 2-0 Sunday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston will return to action on when it travels to Colorado for a pair of road games. The Cougars will face Air Force on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m., before meeting Colorado College at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 16. All times are Central.
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS
The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a 45 minute delay due to field conditions, the Cougars came out swinging. Houston posted six shots in the first 15 minutes of play.
- The Cougars outshot the Cowgirls 11-4 in the opening frame, racking up six corners in the first 45 minutes. Both teams would head into the break scoreless.
- A little over a minute into the second period Mia Brascia lined up for a free kick. The ball would sail into the middle of the box where Madison Fulp would connect with it for her first goal of both the season and her career. Fulp headed the ball past the McNeese goalkeeper, giving Houston a 1-0 lead.
- Almost exactly five minutes later, Desiree Bowen would dribble her way past a McNeese defender and take on the McNeese goalkeeper one-on-one. Bowen would win that fight and net her fourth goal of the season and 15th of her career.
- The Cougars would continue to lockdown the Cowgirls for the remainder of the match, posting their third shutout of the season.
- Samantha Cude made her third straight start for the Cougars, posting her first shutout at Houston and the 14th of her career. The junior racked up two saves on six shots faced. Cude made keys plays down the stretch knocking away McNeese scoring chances in the final minutes.
- Houston outshot McNeese 21-6 and 6-2 in SOG.
- The Cougars picked up one more corner kick than the Cowgirls.
- Houston held McNeese to six shots, its second lowest this season
- The Cougars improve to 4-4-0 this season and 3-0 at home.
- Bowen is now tied for sixth all-time at Houston in goals with 15 for her career.
- Jazmin Grant led the team with seven shots and is fourth all-time at Houston with 2.63 shots per game.
- Mia Brascia leads the Cougars with four assists this season and is currently second all-time in assists per game with 0.50 behind Madison Soileau.
- Houston is now 8-2-1 at home under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra
