Houston Releases 2018-19 Competition Schedule

Cougars to host 13 matches at Winston Tennis Facility
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis program and first-year Head Coach Helena Besovic are excited to announce the 2018-19 competition schedule, which features 13 matches in front of the home fans at Winston Tennis Facility.
The Cougars will compete five times during the fall season, opening across town with the Rice Invitational to be held Sept. 21-23. From there, the Cougars will compete in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational taking place Sept. 28-29 in Lafayette, La., before heading to Dallas for the SMU Invitational across Oct. 5-7.
Houston travels to College Station, Texas, across Oct. 18-22 for the ITA Regional Championships before wrapping the fall campaign at the River Oaks Invitational from Oct. 26-28 at the River Oaks Country Club, in Houston.
Houston opens dual play and the spring season on Saturday, Jan. 19, when it heads back to College Station to meet Texas A&M. The following day, the Cougars will kick off the home slate of the spring campaign with a 2 p.m., matchup against Lamar at Winston Tennis Facility.
Houston wraps the opening month of the season with a pair of home matches on the final weekend of January, welcoming Sam Houston State on Jan. 25, and UIW on Jan. 27.
The Cougars open February with a two-match road swing in Auburn, Ala. Houston is slated to meet Auburn on Feb. 1, before returning then next day to square off against UAB.
Besovic's Cougars face their first American Athletic Conference opponent of the season, when Wichita State opens a three-match homestand for Houston on Feb. 8. The Cougars continue the homestand the following day with SFA, before wrapping the set against Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 15.
The Cougars cap the month of February with the start of a two-match road swing with the first stop in Baton Rouge, La., to take on LSU on Feb. 17. The Cougars open March by wrapping the road trip against UTRGV on March 2.
Three straight home matches will follow the road trip starting with American foe SMU on March 9, and a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on March 10.
The Cougars will play just one match per week over the middle of March, opening with a road trip out west at San Diego State on March 15, before returning home to host UTEP on March 20.
Houston heads to the northeast for its final road trip of the 2019 regular season. The Cougars face Boston College on March 29 in Chestnut Hill, Mass., before meeting American Conference rival UConn on March 30, in Storrs, Conn.
The Cougars wrap the 2019 regular season in front of the home fans, with matches against Florida International on April 1 and USF on April 7, before welcoming crosstown rival Rice in the regular-season finale on April 13.
Postseason play begins for the Cougars at The American Tennis Championships, to be held across April 17-20 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
