Cougars move Fertitta Center opener to Dec. 6 to accommodate TV
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team's Fertitta Center opener against Texas A&M has been moved to Thursday, Dec. 6, to accommodate TV.
The contest against the Aggies, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 5, will now kick off the Fertitta Center era in front of the home fans at 6 p.m., with the game airing on ESPN2.
The 2017-18 season begins with a road contest at Cal on Tuesday, Nov. 6, while the home opener is slated for Nov. 9 against Georgia Tech inside H&PE Arena. Houston will play three home games on the campus of nearby Texas Southern, before moving into their permanent home at the beginning of December.
ABOUT THE 2018-19 COUGARS
Houston returns all five starters from its 2017-18 team that won 20 games and advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2011 with a berth in the WNIT. Houston returns 96.9 percent of its scoring from a season ago, including 96.3 percent of its made 3-pointers after breaking the school record with 247 triples last year.
Offensively, the Cougars will be led by juniors Jasmyne Harris (19.6 PPG in 2017-18) and Angela Harris (14.9 PPG in 2017-18), who earned Second- and Third-Team All-American Athletic Conference honors, respectively, a season ago, marking the first such awards for the Cougars since joining the league.
Each Jasmyne and Angela Harris, as well as senior Serithia Hawkins, enter the 2018-19 campaign on the verge of joining the 1,000-point club, with all three on pace to reach the mark sometime in the middle of the season.
