Named after college football's first three-time first-team All-American, the award is presented annually to the nation's top defensive end.
All three of Chambers' sacks came on third down to force Rice punts. The three sacks were the second-highest week one sack total in the nation behind the 3.5 sacks of Cincinnati's Cortez Broughton.
Chambers' three sacks were the most by a Houston defender in a game since current Baltimore Raven linebacker Tyus Bowser accomplished the feat vs. Tulane in 2016.
Saturday was the first game action for the Houston native since 2015 at Aldine MacArthur High School. After redshirting at TCU in 2016, Chambers sat out the 2017 season at Houston to fulfill NCAA transfer requirements.
