Cougars begin road trip at ECU
WEEKEND NOTES
HOUSTON – Houston continues American Athletic Conference play, as the Cougars hit the road for a five-match stretch away from the Athletics/Alumni Center, starting with ECU and Cincinnati this morning.
The Cougars begin their road trip looking for revenge from last season when they dropped their matchup with the Pirates and Bearcats. In its all-time series, Houston holds a 16-4 record over ECU, while Cincinnati is 11-8 all-time against Houston.

- Houston enters the weekend remaining as one of the most prolific offensive teams in the nation, finding itself ranking amongst the best in the country in total kills (5th, 868), total assists (5th, 808) and total service aces (3rd, 116). All of those are conference bests as well.
- In its matches with Temple and UConn, Houston had a pair of talented freshmen show their promise for years to come in outside hitters Alexis Cheatum and Jordan Lockwood. While they both set career-highs in kills over the weekend, Cheatum led the Cougars with her 2.50 kills per set and contributed to a team-best 26.0 points. Lockwood also surpassed the 20-point with her 20.5 points.
- Another asset the Cougars' young talent is freshman middle blocker Kendall Haywood, who has wasted no time adjusting to the collegiate game, emerging as one of the most effective middle blockers in the country. With her .421 hitting percentage ranking seventh-best in the nation, her 76.0 total blocks is also sits at No. 7 in the country.
- To begin the 2018 campaign, the Cougars garnered their share of All-Tournament honors, racking in a total of eight All-Tournament accolades during nonconference action. Senior setter Katie Krebs and junior outside hitter Megan Duncan earned MVP honors, while junior libero Katie Karbo, junior outside hitter Faith Squier and Haywood each found a spot on an All-Tournament twice.
